Étoiles III is a linocut reduction, edition of 7, 7 × 5 inches, and the film is composed with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.

Five stars keeps their own clock in two sequences: one sequence determines the length each star face holds drawn from six durations (0.3 to 0.8 seconds, in tenths) and one sequence determines which of seven faces appears (corresponding to the edition of seven linocut prints).

Each sequence is independent and built to 73 events. All sequences are stochastic.

Two alphabets are in play: the six durations and the five faces.

Each star carries two independent sequences of durations and faces.

An event holds a face for a duration. Because each star sums its own random duration, the clocks never share a pulse. All 14 sequences are drawn independently.

For each of the five stars the sequence is built by chance under no single restriction: At every event a value is picked at random from the full set — any of the six durations at any of the five faces — and all values are eligible no matter how recently it last appeared.

Values return as often as they may.

The background rotates among seven and randomly-chosen, 3 seconds each and cross-dissolved, obeying the rule that one background value may not follow the same value.
